Our standard crib mattresses come in three versions. Our patented Wovenaire® core, found in all of our mattresses, is made up of 90% air by volume and 10% food-grade polymer, standing by its title of woven-air. The difference in the mattresses comes down to what type of cover and what thickness mattress is best for your family. 

Newton offers three standard crib mattresses: The Essential, Original and Waterproof Crib Mattress. The Wovenairee® core is in all Newton mattresses; however, the Essential is a slimmer profile at only 4" thick instead of the 5.5" that you find in the Original and Waterproof versions.

The covers vary in each type of mattress. The Essential Mattress has a thinner single layer of spacer material that covers the Wovenaire core. The Original, however, is made with 2 layers of thick spacer material that is quilted together to create soft pillows of air over the fully breathable Wovenairee® core. Our Waterproof Mattress uses the same construction in the cover as our Original Mattress, adding a layer of breathable waterproof lining for toddler years on one side to help better combat bigger messes. Each type of mattress cover fully zips off, and the entire mattress is washable from cover to the core!

The Essential Crib Mattress is a bit firmer in feel, as the cover is not quilted like the Original and Waterproof. The Original and Waterproof mattresses are 2-stage mattresses: firm enough for your baby and comfortable enough to grow with them all through toddler years.

Newton also offers one Mini Crib Mattress with dimensions of 37.75" x 23.75" x 3". The Mini Mattress has our patented Wovenaire core and features a soft, eyelet removable single layer 3D spacer cover with the viscose layer sewn into the underside of the cover’s spacer material.

Your Newton mattress will arrive ready to use with your chosen cover installed on the core. If you have chosen to add accessory items such as a mattress pad or sheets to your little one’s bed set up, please be sure to put on each component in the following order to ensure your Newton is safe and as breathable as possible!

Newton mattresses are not as rigid as other mattresses because of our unique materials and breathable construction consisting of 90% air by volume. Unlike foam and latex, our mattresses are completely safe, non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and breathable. Our mattresses consist of 3 components: the Wovenaire® unique core material made of 90% air and 10% food-grade polymer (that's the stuff yogurt containers are made from), the 3-dimensional Breathe-Thru cover that is 100% polyester, and an encasement made of viscose (a reconstituted wood pulp) that is used as a natural fire barrier. Our Waterproof Mattress and Waterproof Crib Mattress Pad have a TPU lining that is a heat-sealed fabric waterproof lining. Wovenaire® is a patented cushioning material that replaces foam, latex, and springs and it’s the core of all our mattresses. It’s made of 100% recyclable food-grade polymer, an LDPE grade 4 plastic. It’s the same material as a yogurt container! Wovenaire is 90% air by volume - which makes it incredibly light and, well, airy. In addition, Wovenairee® is made with hypoallergenic materials, and it is the most hygienic sleeping surface for your little one because it’s completely washable. It’s GREENGUARD Gold Certified, which means it is tested and certified to have the lowest chemical emissions possible.

Wovenaire® is made by weaving food grade polymer in a pool of crystal-clear water. It solidifies to form a three-dimensional cushion, consisting of 90% air by volume. Wovenaire completely forms itself in water and is then shaped into its mattress size. Watch it being made on our Design page here.

We are proud to say all of our products are designed by our team in the US. For our mattresses, our patented Wovenairee® material is made in the USA at our facility outside of Nashville, Tennessee. We cover the Wovenaire with a three-dimensional spacer material to promote breathability that is made for us in China. All final assembly, quality control, and order fulfillment is done from the same facility in Tennessee. Our sheets and swaddles are made in Pakistan. Our partner products are made in various places around the world! From our dadada cribs made in Italy, to our sleep sacks made in Turkey, Newton partners with only the finest brands to ensure the quality and integrity of all products delivered to our Newton family.

While many of our competitors use toxic chemical fire retardants, we do not. Instead, we use a layer of viscose material that will either be sewn into the cover or a separate, inner encasement placed under our cover. Viscose is made from reconstituted wood pulp and is chemical free. We use this material as it is a safer, natural, non-toxic solution allowing our mattress to exceed stringent Federal Flammability Standards (16 CFR Parts 1632 and 1633).

Newton mattresses, covers, and pads have been independently tested and certified by UL to meet GREENGUARD Gold standards for the lowest chemical emissions. The standards are among the most rigorous in the world to test for the lowest measurements of chemical emissions (such as VOCs), and it certifies that Newton products help to promote healthier indoor air quality. With Newton, you can rest assured your baby is sleeping safely.

We only use hypoallergenic materials in our products. By virtue of the mattress’ breathability and Newton’s Breathe-Thru technology, humidity and moisture build up are dramatically reduced, eliminating a haven for dust mites to breed. Our products' easy washability helps to ensure all dust and allergens are kept at bay.

Our Essential, Original, and Waterproof mattresses are all standard-size crib mattresses and are designed for a snug fit, complying with all mandatory safety standards of standard-American-sized cribs. Our Original and Waterproof Crib Mattress has a finished measurement of 52” x 28” x 5.5”, while our Essential Mattress has a thinner profile at 52” x 28” x 4”. We also offer a Mini Crib Mattress that will only fit stationary, rigid-sided mini cribs. The Mini Crib Mattress has dimensions of 37.75" x 23.75" x 3". We always urge all parents to use their best discretion when determining which crib to purchase for their Newton Mattress of choice.

While we know babies are messy, accidents most times will not go through the water-resistant covers. This makes it easy to spot clean messes or remove the cover for laundering as needed. Once you head into toddler years and potty training months, you may want to consider adding our waterproof mattress pad for added protection and quick changes.

Washing the Cover:

Washing the outer cover before first use is optional.

Unzip and remove from core. 

Zip fully closed prior to washing and drying.

Wash on cold with a mild detergent.

Tumble dry on low heat. Dry thoroughly. DO NOT hang dry.

Wash the outer cover as often as you like.

Washing the encasement:

 Clean encasement only if soiled. (Encasement comes with Original and Waterproof models only.)

Unzip and remove from core.

Zip fully closed prior to washing and drying.

Machine wash in cold water with mild detergent. DO NOT use hot water.

Wash together with outer cover for a balanced load. Never wash with any other laundry. 

Dry immediately in dryer on tumble dry low heat setting, allowing it to dry thoroughly. DO NOT leave damp; DO NOT hang dry.

TIP: The encasement (or underlining should you have an Essential or Mini)  is made with natural Viscose material which may develop an odor if allowed to remain damp (like a wool sweater). To refresh, add 1/2 cup baking soda to the wash.

Washing the core:

For bigger messes or just for seasonal cleaning, the core can be washed as needed.

Wash in the shower with soap & cool water or rinse outside with a hose. 

Shake excess water out of the core and stand-up to dry.

Place in a well ventilated area for faster drying.

Avoid drying in direct sunlight. DO NOT use heating elements to speed the drying process.

What to avoid:

DO NOT USE HOT WATER - When washing, use only cold or cool temperature water. Washing with hot water will cause shrinkage.

DO NOT USE HEAT TO DRY - Only use cool air solutions when speeding up the drying process. DO NOT USE A BLOW DRYER OR HEATING ELEMENT TO DRY AS HEAT CAN CAUSE SHRINKAGE AND DAMAGE.

You can wash your crib mattress as often as needed. Spot clean, or give it a full wash whenever you like! The cover can be laundered as much as you desire, or as often as you would launder your fitted sheet. Make sure to check our care and use instructions for the best practices on how to care for your mattress.

It is not necessary for you to wash your mattress before use, but feel free to wash it as you like! The mattress and cover can be cleaned as much as needed, and washing it before use is completely up to you. Your local transfer station is the best place to connect to. The core is an LDPE grade 4 plastic and the cover is polyester. While recycling centers differ from state to state, most locations will accept the materials for easy recycling. Having trouble or need more help? Our mattresses are unique in their construction and are the same firmness all the way through, which means no need to flip the mattress as your baby grows. Our mattresses meet all required standards for firmness needed for developmental growth and safety. They are more comfortable than traditional mattresses, allowing you and your baby to sleep safe and sound through each night.  

If you have the Waterproof Crib Mattress, be sure to look at the underlining inside the cover. The blue waterproof lining is meant for toddler years when messes are bigger, while the side without the waterproofing is intended for your infant for unhindered breathability for your baby's first year.

Our mattresses are meant for stationary, rigid-sided cribs only. It is not recommended that you put a supplemental mattress into a pack n' play for safety reasons. Use only the pad and mattress provided by the manufacturer in play-yards, as they are meant to fit securely in the product. Because pack n' plays, play-yards, and many bassinets are soft-sided, placing a supplemental mattress inside of one can cause a gap and safety hazard for your little one.

We have made Newton Crib Mattresses the recommended firmness needed to support your baby’s musculoskeletal development, and we’ve made it comfortable as well! This ensures that your Newton will grow with your baby from infancy through toddler ages! You do not need to flip the mattress for use with a toddler, as the sides are interchangeable. Additionally, Newton meets the Australian Firmness Standard through the sleep surfaces firmness test AS/NZS 8811.1:2013.

Our 2-stage Original and Waterproof mattresses are designed to grow with your baby and have unique longevity. It is firm enough for your littlest but cushy enough for your growing toddler. Plus, with its ability to be washed down to the core for a fresh sleep like new, Newton is a hand-me-down you can feel good about. Our Essential Mattress is a thinner profile and is great for infant use to gain maximum breathability and washability. Still, with one layer of spacer material, the Essential doesn’t offer the same cushiony feel that growing toddlers love.

While it’s not required, feel free! You may find it easier to combat messes by flipping your mattress when needed, and as it’s the same firmness all the way through, go ahead. Flip away!

At this time, we cannot make custom sizes.

Our sheets are made from 100% Organic Cotton Muslin for maximum breathability and comfort. Super soft from the first touch, our sheets and swaddles are GOTS certified and are designed to be as breathable as our mattress.

While all of our Newton mattresses are made with Wovenaire®, a unique cushion spacer material designed for optimal airflow, each cover varies by mattress type. The Original and Waterproof Covers are made with 2 layers of thick spacer material that are quilted together to create soft pillows of air over the fully breathable Wovenairee® core. Our Waterproof Cover is a dual-sided cover that gives you one side of Breathe-Thru material for infants and one side with a heat-sealed, breathable TPU underlining for waterproofing in the toddler years. Additionally, we use a layer of chemical-free viscose material made from reconstituted wood pulp as the federally required fire-blocking material as part of the cover construction itself. This is a natural approach to stringent federal flammability requirements. This material may be quilted between the spacer material of the cover with a flap around the zipper or arrive as a separate inner encasement. Both constructions are completely breathable. The Essential Mattress has a thinner single layer of spacer material, with the viscose layer sewn into the underside of the cover’s spacer material. Each mattress cover and encasement has a full zipper for easy removal and machine washing, and are interchangeable on the Wovenairee® mattress core of the same style.

The covers for the Original and Essential Crib Mattress are not waterproof, however, they are water resistant! Most messes will stay on the machine-washable cover to make cleaning up messes easy. For waterproof protection in later months, you can add our breathable and waterproof Crib Mattress Pad.

Our Waterproof Crib Mattress brings everything together in a 2-stage design combining our dual layer breathe-thru cover on the infant side and an additional layer of waterproofing beneath the breathe-thru construction on the other side for bigger messes in toddler years.

We recommend forgoing the mattress pad until your little one is around 10 months to a year old or until your baby can easily roll on their own from back to front. This will give your baby unhindered airflow as their muscles and movement are developing. The mattress covers are water resistant, so many messes stay on the cover and do not reach the core. The entire mattress is completely washable, and we have made Extra Covers available for purchase for each style mattress, so you can always have a backup for those late-night changes. Once your little one grows and messes get bigger, we recommend using our breathable and waterproof crib mattress pad to maintain the breathability and comfort that your little one loves from their Newton while adding a layer of waterproof protection for quicker clean-ups. Keep in mind, the pad is a great addition to any traditional mattress while traveling or in a childcare setting to add the breathability and comfort of a Newton to any setting outside the home!

Our Waterproof Crib Mattress Pad is a great addition to your Newton when looking for breathability and waterproof protection. The covers of the Newton Essential and Original mattresses are water-resistant and machine washable, so adding a pad for the first few months isn’t necessary, as messes are smaller and stay on the cover for easy cleaning. Using only a sheet over the mattress cover will give your little one maximum breathability through their rollover stages. Adding our Crib Mattress Pad when messes and leaks get bigger is a great way to keep the comfort and breathability your little one loves while also adding waterproof protection for quick cleanups. Our pad is useful when traveling or in daycare settings, as it can add breathability to ANY crib mattress.

The Newton Crib Mattress Pad comes in handy in several ways. From traveling, to a caregiver's house, to adding to your mattress for a quick change during potty training moments, it is a practical item to own. It is constructed similarly to the toddler side of the Waterproof Crib Mattress as both have a waterproof lining underneath our breathe-thru material for breathability and protection. It can quickly become a staple in your home for comfort and waterproof protection.

The mattress is designed to fit all traditional twin bed frames. It measures 38” x 75” x 5.5”.

Before attempting to assemble your kids’ mattress, please note that the cover and core will require assembly. Ensure receipt of components and follow the steps below:

1. Unroll cover (arrives unzipped as top and bottom layers) and set top cover aside

2. Lift side walls of bottom cover into a box shape

3. Fit all 3 core segments inside, making certain that all edges (especially the top edges) align flush against each other (no bumps or spaces in between)

4. Place top cover over assembled bottom cover and core

5. Zip closed, tucking front flap in between core and side walls

Our Kids' mattress is made with the same technology, comfort, and firm support Newton is known for in our crib mattresses. The Kids’ Mattress offers the support your growing toddler needs as they transition from their crib to their big-kid bed. It’s designed for toddlers 100lbs and under. You can easily wash the entire mattress frequently to ward off dust mites and allergens. This makes it the ideal mattress for kids with allergies and those suffering from asthma.

Our mattress is suitable for infancy through toddler years and has been tested up to 100 lbs and will easily transition with your toddler. Things like getting in for story time and comforting at night will be just fine, but keep in mind it is a Kid’s Mattress and intended for use for your growing little ones.

Our top tips for ensuring that your pet LOVES their new bed

1. Out With the Old

If this was a replacement for their old, tattered bed, make sure the old bed is gone completely. Make it a clean break to make the transition an easier one. If not, make sure the old bed is in a different room.

2. Make it Smell Like Home

Add smells they trust and recognize to the bed by rubbing your hands (or old shirt) all over it. You can even leave an old shirt on the bed.

3. Create Their Happy Place

Pets are just like us: they’re creatures of comfort. Help your dog warm up to the bed with toys, treats, and tons of praise.

4. Go Undercover

Some pets need an extra nudge to try out their new space. Try covering it with one of their blankets to add a familiar scent and feel.

5. Just Be Patient

Set up is easy!

1. Insert the Wovenaire® core inside the bottom of the bed cover and zip it closed.

2. Carefully open the reusable vacuum pack bag to remove 4 bolsters.

3. Toss the bolsters in the dryer for 15 minutes to help them expand. Hand fluff as needed.

4. Insert one long bolster into the back bolster sleeve by sliding it in one opening and pulling it from the other sleeve end.

5. Zip halfway around each side to form sleeves to tuck one short bolster into each side.

6. Continue zipping each side around the front corners, then tuck the last long bolster before zipping fully closed.

Our dog beds are designed to be slept in and will last for years, with regular wear and tear. The lifespan of a pet bed depends partly on the age, character, and sleeping habits of your dog.

Our unique quilted spacer cover offers complete, unhindered airflow through the cover and core for your pet’s ultimate comfort. While it is not waterproof, it is water-resistant, and most messes stay on the cover. While made with strong, durable materials, the bed can be chewed like all other furniture. If your dog displays chewing behaviors, be sure to keep an eye on them to discourage chewing their new bed.

Absolutely! A fully removable cover and polyester-filled washable bolsters can be tossed into the washing machine, and the Wovenaire® core can be taken into the shower or hosed off outside.

Most pet beds only feature a washable cover, making it difficult to keep their sleep environment truly clean. A 100% washable pet bed allows you to wash your pet’s bed from cover to core, easily washing away accidents and allergens for a cleaner, more hypoallergenic sleep.

Washability is key when it comes to sleep accommodations for our furry friends. Although optimal comfort and durability are just as important. Our pet bed boasts all three and features our innovative Wovenaire® technology, making it the only pet bed with a true mattress at its core.

After processing, your order will arrive within approximately 3-7 business days. Each product ships individually and often times from different facilities throughout the country. Shipments may arrive at different times. You will receive an email notification with a tracking number for every item in your order when the item ships. All Newton products ship via FedEx, while some cribs may ship through UPS. Be sure to check your confirmation emails and other communication from Newton, as we work diligently to keep you up to date on all shipping updates as we receive them.

Our products are sent from different facilities throughout the country and will arrive at different times. We typically ship through FedEx Ground, although some of our smaller items will ship through the best shipping options possible, which might be USPS based on your location. You will receive a tracking number for each item when the item has shipped.

We currently ship to the 48 contiguous US states with free ground shipping. Shipping costs to Alaska and Hawaii will be calculated upon checkout for available items and are normally shipped through FedEx. We also ship most items to Canada with shipping, duties, and taxes paid by the customer during the checkout process. Each product will list shipping options for these different zones on their product page within the Shipping & Delivery sections.

We are not able to take pre-orders when an item is out of stock. Only items that have an expected arrival date or shipping date are able to be purchased for future delivery. We do update our product pages as best as possible with anticipated shipping dates or arrival dates. You can also place your email on the list to be alerted to when the product is back in stock for purchase

We cannot postpone delivery on orders at this time.  Every order is processed once it is placed, and items are shipped within approximately 1-2 business days (according to their available ship date). Orders will arrive in 4-12 business days once shipped. Please note there’s no need to delay shipment to maximize your 100-Night Trial because your trial starts on your due date. Newton takes pride in the integrity and quality of our products. All Newton products are covered under warranty periods to guarantee quality in our manufacturing and production. This warranty applies only to you, the original purchaser or the first owner should it be gifted, and proof of this purchase must be provided. This warranty is non-transferable and covers defects in workmanship and/or materials. This warranty does not apply to normal wear and tear; soiling and staining caused by grease, inks, cosmetics, bleach, dyes, solvents, corrosives; intentional or accidental damage/abuse (i.e. cutting into the material); misuse/mishandling of the product and any of its components; or to items that do not contain the original manufacturer's law tag. Submitting a claim in our Quality Assurance portal will require proof of purchase, original law tags, manufacturing date information, and requested details and images of the product. In many cases, the item must be sent to Newton Baby for internal review. Any items approved under a warranty claim will qualify for a replacement or replacement part from the same or similar product. 

CRIB MATTRESSES: Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the above-listed details on the Wovenaire core, with a 2-year warranty on the mattress cover. 

COVERS & PADS: 2-year limited warranty covers the above-listed details. 

KIDS MATTRESS: Limited 10-year warranty covers the above-listed details on the Wovenaire core, with a 2-year warranty on the mattress cover.

BASSINET & BEDSIDE SLEEPER: Limited 12-month warranty protects against defects in materials and workmanship under normal, non-commercial, and reasonable use for which the Product was designed (used with your baby between birth and six months, or when baby can get on hands and knees, and weighs less than 25 pounds),  for twelve (12) months from the date of delivery of the Product. 

TRAVEL CRIB & PLAY YARD : Limited 2 Year warranty protects against defects in materials and workmanship under normal, non-commercial, and reasonable use for which the Product was designed for two (2) years from the date of delivery of the Product. 

OTHER: All partner products have various warranty lengths and will be secured and verified by the partner manufacturer, not Newton Baby. ( This includes, but is not limited to the following brands: Babyletto, dadada, & Figgy.)

Any items that are returned that have been used or opened are recycled and never resold or refurbished.

All non-mattress or crib returns must occur within 30 days of purchase and the item must not be used or damaged. This includes, but not limited to, sheets, extra covers, mattress pads, and pillows.

Cribs must be returned in their original packaging, unused, and unassembled.

Mattress, bassinet, and play yard returns must occur within the 100-night free trial time frame. The 100 Night Trial only is valid for applicable items purchased directly from newtonbaby.com. If you purchased a mattress at an authorized Newton retailer, the store’s return policy would apply.
