Most mini mattresses are just thin pieces of foam wrapped in plastic. Newton’s Mini Crib Mattress is different. It’s made of 90% air and 10% food-grade polymer, a unique blend that we call Wovenaire® technology.

While standard crib mattresses are often 5 inches thick, mini crib mattresses are thinner to fit best in standard mini cribs. For instance, the Newton 3-inch thick Mini Crib mattress is specifically engineered for the unique safety standards of mini cribs.

But don’t let the slim profile fool you! Our Mini mattress provides firm and comfortable support for your baby.

Depending on the size of the travel crib or bassinet, the Mini Crib Mattress may fit, but we don’t recommend that you try to make it work if it’s not a perfect fit.

Our Mini Crib Mattress measures 37.75” x 23.75” x 3” and is specifically sized and designed for rigid-sided mini cribs. Because play yards and bassinets can have soft, flexible sides, a thicker mattress like our Mini could create a dangerous gap where your baby might get stuck.

For the safest and best situation, only use our Mini Crib Mattress in a mini crib that matches its dimensions.

One of the best parts about Newton mattresses is the airflow. While you can cover them with a waterproof pad, we usually recommend waiting until the potty-training stage to do so.

Traditional waterproof covers can block the breathability benefits that make the Mini so safe. That said, if you want a little extra protection, the Newton Breathable Waterproof Mattress Pad is designed to keep air flowing while stopping leaks from spreading.

In regard to sheets, you don’t need anything special as long as they’re designed specifically for the small size of the mattress. The fitted sheet should fit snugly without any loose material.

For maximum comfort, look for breathable muslin or cotton material, and avoid thick, padded material that might trap heat. And remember your baby only needs a fitted sheet. Avoid top sheets and blankets until your little one is around 18 months old.

The Newton Mini is completely washable from cover to core. If your baby has an accident, just unzip the soft outer cover and toss it in the washing machine.

For bigger messes, you can put the Wovenaire® core in the shower or tub and rinse it off with cool water and a mild detergent. It dries quickly and stays hypoallergenic because there’s no foam to trap bacteria or smells.

While the Newton Mini Crib Mattress is not organic, it is a safer crib mattress for baby. Most "organic" baby crib mattresses feature only one organic component, such as cotton fabric or stuffing, but they aren't fully organic. Newton offers a mattress that is not only completely breathable to reduce suffocation risk but also offers the only washable crib mattress, making it the most hygienic sleep surface for your baby.
